SAMPLE PRE SEASON COACH LETTER TO TEAM PARENTS

We’re back!  Can you believe this will be our third year together?  Fortunately we have made some exciting moves in the off season and have acquired _____ and _____.  Our new team roster is attached.

Our first practice is Wednesday, September 12th, at 5pm.  PLEASE take the time to review the following, even if you have read it before.

A major change this year is our games will now be at Town Field on Beech Street.  Practices and games are at Town Field.  Game schedules are on the Belmont Second Soccer website (www.belmont2ndsoccer.org)

______, parent of _____, has volunteered to create a schedule for Oranges.  Please email her if you are interested in bringing oranges to one of the games.

In addition to fun and team building, this year we’re excited to take the kids to a whole new level of soccer.

If you have any questions or want to help in any way, please let me know.  Hope you had a great summer.

·         Practice

                        -            Our practices will be held each Wednesday night at 5pm at Winn Brook (First official practice, Wednesday September 12th).  Our expectations will be to be finished by 5:50 each night.

                        -            During practice we will probably split the groups in two or three and run consistent drills.  Please remember to bring water with you.

                        -            As with last year, please remember to have your child bring his or her own (size 3) soccer ball to practice each week.

                        -            If practice is to be cancelled, due to weather or some other reason, I will send an e-mail out to everyone by 3pm of that day.  If you don't have access to e-mail during that time of day, feel free to call my cell to confirm, xxx-xxx-xxxx.  On game day go to the 2nd Soccer website (www.belmont2ndsoccer.com) for cancellation posting.

·         Parents Practice October 3rd

                        -             Due to overwhelming success we would like to have another “Parent’s Practice.”  Whether you have played or not I am hoping to engage parents in one practice again this season to run drills with his/her son or daughter.  Obviously, for those that cannot attend due to prior commitments please feel free to send a replacement player of your choice (i.e. Grandparent, babysitter, nanny, etc.)  Don’t worry, we will take it easy on you.

·         Uniforms

                        -             If you are a returning player, use the same uniforms.  If you are new to the team, or your child has out grown their uniform, please go to Champion’s in Belmont to purchase what you need (t-shirt, shorts, socks, shin guards, and cleats).  Please remember to “double knot” your child’s cleats.  As simple as it is, it causes a lot of frustration when you have 24 kids running around a field and half have untied cleats.

·   Staying at the field

-            Not that this has been a problem but I wanted to give a quick reminder.  The league requires that parents/caregivers remain at the field during games and practices. If you can’t be present, please arrange for another parent to assume responsibility for your player.

·   The “ZONE”

-            As we have in the past we will continue with the “Zone.”  The Zone is where during games and scrimmages we will have the players that are not on the field sit.  We ask that parents stay away from the Zone so we can keep the kids engaged and supporting the other players on the field.  The Zone also helps us manage substitutions.  I will explain more at our first practice.
